When I read statements like this: “According to research, the number-one reason teams fail is a lack of trust.” I can’t help but wonder what the recent restructures have done to that trust.
Another sentence in the article below got my attention: “There is no deep learning without emotional involvement.” That is ever so true and plays out in many coaching conversations.
A seasoned coach knows when the coachee is close to the crux. The hesitation, pause, shift of posture, eyes, voice etc. are early indications that we’re approaching the emotional area – and as a result, we’re getting somewhere.
Vulnerability is connected to a whole raft of tricky emotions. Being vulnerable as a leader is important, and it carried a certain amount of risk with it. What better (and safer) way than exploring this particular approach with a trusted confidant. That’s exactly how the role of a good coach plays out: partnering to help gain that additional string to the bow of an already accomplished leader.
